Because we spend most of our time on Jupiter we’re about 99% sure that we’re the last people to hear about this band. This afternoon the NerdSeven offices were filled for the first-time with the sounds of Mumford & Sons and we thought it was blog-worthy to mention them. Evidence of Ancient One-Eyed Humans Discovered?

“Scientists” “Explain” “That Flash” on Jupiter

This entire cosmic event smacks of an X-Files cover up. Now scientists are passing off the mysterious kaboom spotted on Jupiter this month as the impact of a small object which was big enough to make a flash, but too small to penetrate the gas giant’s clouds and leave a mark… Because of our suspicion surrounding the “flash” we had the NerdSeven Engineering Dept. enhance the Hubble image provided by NASA, which is below. The X-Files gave us 9 seasons of supernatural sleuthing - but it wasn’t all gold. There were lots of really, really bad episodes - but which season had a few too many, enough that you could answer…

Are We Incapable of Understanding the Universe?

Are human beings incapable of truly understanding the universe? One could find arguments for and against. If you’re naturally inclined to throw up your shield and charge forward against such blasphemy you may cite the exponential advancements us humans have made in such a short time… but you may also come to the realization that while we may be capable of understanding it we are simply not ready. Lord Rees, a “top” British scientist seems to agree, and then some:

“Just as a fish may be barely aware of he medium in which it lives and swims, so the microstructure of empty space could be far too complex for unaided human brains.”

If we understand correctly (and we may not be smart enough to) Rees is suggesting that humans may need supplementary intelligence or machines to fully comprehend the space around us. That doesn’t sound outrageous, but for some reason Borg goldfish sounds way better!

The Oceans of Mars?

It has long been speculated that Mars wasn’t always the cold, arid planet that it is today. Researchers from the University of Colorado have published their findings which seem to identify the existence of a common sea level on Mars. The findings suggest that about 3.5 billion years ago a vast ocean covered as much as a third of the Martian surface.
